Akzidenz Grotesk is a geometric sans serif font family designed in 1896 by the H. Berthold AG type foundry. In 1957 Max Miedinger at the Haas Foundry used it as a model for the famous Helvetica. It combined the dramatic and modern look they were seeking with less rigid geometric forms that positively impacted it’s readability. Akzidenz Grotesk is quite similar to Helvetica as it shares the similar characteristics.
Akzidenz Grotesk has been favoured for its character shapes making it perfect for powerful branding. The understated forms of this sans serif font are a superb match for dry and statical information. It is suitable for large signage and for all kind of print media designs. The clean and modern design makes it elegant, and readability is also a major factor in companies using it in their branding. Its simple geometric form has many subtle idiosyncrasies for example the cross on the ‘S’ and ‘C’ tails are not perfectly horizontal, the uppercase ‘G’ is without spur, the uppercase R has a straight leg and the Uppercase ‘Q’ has a short tail.
It comes as a complete font package, including the condensed version. The weights ranges from Light to Regular and Black. The fonts also has their italics includes in the package.
