Antique Olive is a variant of sans-serif font designed by the French type designer, Roger Excoffon in the 1960s. It is designed for the Fonderie Olive foundry and is not futuristic geometric like Helvetica and Univers. Antique Olive is a special finish due to its large size, rich feel and people-oriented characteristics, which makes it an excellent selection for numerous design solutions.
Another characteristics of Antique Olive are the high x-height, that is, the height of lower case letters in proportion to the general height of the font. It increases its readability and the quality of display especially when used at small sizes. As with many sans-serif fonts, it has a fairly condensed appearance but the corners are rounded and has some calligraphic qualities so it does not come across as stark as many other sans-serif fonts.
A special feature of Antique Olive is its letters, especially the āaā and the āgā that has angular forms that give the design a separate character. The font family has a large number of styles from ultra light to black and condensed forms, it is suitable for headings, posters, logos, and text.
