Neue Haas Unica Font

The Neue Haas Unica font family is an expanded and reinvented version of Haas Unica – a typeface that was an attempt at a Helvetica alternative and became almost legendary before it was lost from the market. First released in 1980 by the Haas Type Foundry and designed by Team ’77–André Gürtler, Erich Gschwind, and Christian Mengelt–for the then-new phototypesetting technology, the design was never updated for the contemporary digital environment–until now. Monotype Studio’s Toshi Omagari has revived this classic with new weights, new languages and new letters for the digital and print age. Comprised of 18 styles, Neue Haas Unica is quite suitable for a wide variety of tasks, as it has a smooth gradation of weights and_precision of character contours.

The family’s lighter weights work great for headlines, and other large sizes, as well as small chunks of text at standard sizes. The regular, medium and bold weights have no limitations and the heavy and black designs are perfect for when type needs to be authoritative. Neue Haas Unica family can be used for everything, similar to the Neue Helvetica and Univers Next typefaces; they are suitable for any project. Besides its 9 specific weights, and the parallel italics, Neue Haas Unica offers some additional characters for the users of Eastern and Central European, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets, which were not available in the original typeface.
