Neue Kabel Font

Neue Kabel is a modern version of classic font Kabel developed by Rudolf Koch, a German typographer in the 1920’s. With Monotype, Marc Schütz and Christian Schwartz presented the new version which inherits Kabel’s timeless appeal but in a more digital and flexible way to serve modern design purposes.

Neue Kabel font emphasizes the certain geometric shapes and harmonious curves that made the original Kabel a known typeface. Schütz and Schwartz did however introduce a few modifications to make this appropriate for typical typographic use.

The main new aspects of Neue Kabel are in the matching array of weights and styles that widen designers’ possibilities of composition with typography. For many design needs, Neue Kabel has lots of options ranging from delicate Thin to bold Black and their italics.

Besides all that, Neue Kabel offers a better spacing and kerning than the original, ensuring perfect legibility and visual coherence at all text sizes and within different text environments. Schütz and Schwartz’s alterations beautify the text making it more polished and even, and, consequently, the typographic experience as a whole.

The better language support, and OpenType features like alternate characters, ligatures and stylistic sets, are used by New Kabel. The typographers can easily refine and modify their typography designs for the additional artistic expression presented by these characteristics.

Neue Kabel, in general, doesn’t go wrong with the perfect harmony of tradition and modernity, where he honors the established principles of Kabel by Rudolf Koch, but adds a few fashionable additions which are important to contemporary design.
